PMC Construction Backs Record-Breaking Literacy Celebration in Portsmouth
PMC Construction has proudly supported a remarkable community event in Portsmouth that has set a new Guinness World Record for the largest reading lesson held across multiple sites.
Taking place at Fratton Park on World Book Day, the event united 6,715 pupils from 46 schools for a 40-minute shared reading session, led by former headteacher Howard Payne and children’s author Dan Freedman.
The record-breaking lesson came together through a strong city-wide partnership involving Portsmouth Creates, Portsmouth Football Club, Pompey in the Community and Portsmouth Library Services. The collaboration demonstrated how local organisations can join forces to inspire young people and promote a love of reading.
As a lead sponsor, alongside Hyde Housing and several other partners, PMC Construction was delighted to help deliver a project that champions literacy, boosts confidence and opens doors to future opportunity for children across Portsmouth.
The success of this event also forms part of Portsmouth Creates’ In Our Words campaign, celebrating the city’s creative energy, ambition and community spirit.
