Completed: 20 Sustainable & Affordable Homes in Totton
Stockland Mews becomes the latest development completed by PMC Construction to put sustainable and accessible living at the heart of a community.
The project in Totton, a town close to Southampton in Hampshire, sees 20 new homes on the site of the former Stocklands elderly care scheme off of Calmore Drive. The £2.8 million build for New Forest District Council proudly boasts 10 one-bedroom apartments, five two-bedroom houses and five three-bedroom houses.

Work began in July 2018 and completed in September 2019.
Why Is Stockland Mews Different?
Throughout the development process, affordability for residents has been key. The land for the build was acquired through a land swap deal with Hampshire County Council in 2017, meaning no purchase of land was necessary. As a result, New Forest District Council has been able to continue its drive of providing affordable housing for its residents.
Councillor Jill Cleary, the portfolio handler for the New Forest, said:
“This is one of the ways set out in our recently launched Housing Strategy 2018 to 2036, in which we are working to ensure suitable housing is accessible to everyone in our community.” Source
We are pleased to say we lived up to our own reputation of developing sustainable communities to live and work. As certified through the Considerate Constructors Scheme, PMC Construction was able to carry out the development with minimal disruption to the area.
Stockland Mews homes have also been developed with adaptability in mind, recognising the need to meet both the current and future needs of the New Forest’s ageing population.
The tenants will benefit from reduced energy bills thanks to their energy-efficient homes.
The houses are designed to allow for easy adaptations such as the installation of a lift, while a slightly larger ground floor cloakroom in the houses can be adapted to become an accessible wet room.
Affordable Homes For Everyone
Affordability continues even after construction. Now the homes have been built, they are being allocated to local people in need on the council’s housing waiting list. The scheme is built to high environmental standards: not only will sustainable buildings create a lower environmental impact, but homes will be cheaper to run. The tenants will benefit from reduced energy bills thanks to their energy-efficient homes.
